Our First Christmas

Last Christmas I remember sitting around drinking a glass of wine missing my family and thinking that I was officially TOO old for Christmas. Now I am thinking, wow, I cant believe I have a wonderful husband, two cats, and all our friends to celebrate with.

This year has been a whirlwind as I cant remember what happened in between graduating college, starting my first job, getting married, and preparing for a move to Montana!!! I am so grateful of all the wonderful opportunities that I have been blessed with.

Last New Years Eve I was in Montana scrolling around the internet looking for job opportunities to resolve my worries of my impending graduation and lunge into the real world. All I could think was "gee, I really miss Montana". There is something so wonderful about the clear and crisp big sky. It always brings so much clarity in such a confusing and chaotic world. I had hoped I would end up there but I never thought it would actually happen.

My best christmas present this year: realizing all the dreams that I had, came true.

This year, being a newlywed couple, Dale and I had unbelievable amounts of Christmas spirit. This being our first christmas meant the things we do now may become traditions later on. We really wanted to start off right---no pressure of course.

And so begin our Christmas season.

On Thanksgiving, besides decorating many festive autumn cookies and digesting tons of incredibly delicious foods, we watched Holiday Inn (my all time favorite holiday movie).

After searching for the perfect tree, of course too large for our apartment, we chopped a foot or so off and began our decorations, which included Kix garland, candy canes, lights, cheap plastic ornaments, and some memorable ornaments that I have been lugging around from dorm to apartments for the last 4 years.

Now, for those of you who dont know Dale, you need to realize that he is the biggest Christmas movie buff. From Thanksgiving to Christmas day we watched two, if not three christmas related movies. The highlight of them all, watching the Christmas Story for the first time and realized all the jokes I never understood came from this movie.

There may not have been chestnuts roasting over an open fire on Christmas eve but there were carrots, beets, and pork roasting in our oven and the delicious aroma was enough to knock anyone into a ravenous hunger. And though still full on dinner the night before, our Christmas feast of cornish game hens lured us into yet another hunger.

Now that the eggnog and amaretto have coated my stomach and all the gifts unwrapped I realize how wonderful life is and wish all of you a good night!

merry christmas.
