Catching up

 My 28th B-day!

It seems I finally caught whatever nasty bug has been making its way around.  I have been fighting a cold for the past 10 days and have weathered through until today when I woke up feeling close to death.  I made the call to my lead teacher and called in sick.  I don't like missing school.  I miss my kids.  I also put a lot of thought into my lesson plans and it feels like a day wasted when I don't show up to execute those lesson plans.  Mostly, I miss the routine of shaking hands with my kids every morning and eating lunch with them in the cafeteria....(this could explain why I am sick.....)

Some super juice.....I love juicing anything with ginger.  My favorite recipe so far: carrot, apple, ginger.....so delish!

After sleeping for 14 hours straight, drinking some super juice full of ginger (I got a juicer and LOVE IT!), and blowing brains out on what's left of my Kleenex, I finally found enough strength to sit up.  My blogs have been few and far between.  I don't need to explain the reasons, you all know.  Alas, I felt the need to send out some updates today.  Since ringing in the New Year we have spent a lot of time exploring our new place, reading, cooking, and finally settling into a bit of normalcy since our big move.

In January, we had 2 snow days (in TEXAS!) which resulted in some awesome reading sessions.  I read 4 books in a weekend, snuggled with kids, and got caught up on Glee, Grey's Anatomy, and Top Chef.  I rang in my 28th birthday on the 2nd snow day (best birthday present ever!) and snuggled with my cuties and opened presents.  Dale and I got a night out on the town for my birthday and had an awesome time exploring Houston's culinary meccas.  Our favorite stop of the night was at Triniti--an amazing little restaurant with phenomenal food.  A few days later, we also adopted Shyla, our dog.  She is pointer/collie/lab??? The boys love her and Kannon has official named her "his dog".  One advantage of having a new pup in the house, is I have managed to spot clean every square inch of floor due to potty accidents.  At least she's cute.... And, as if my b-day week couldn't get any better, the Seahawks won the SuperBowl!!!

Our little cuties.  Clark and Shyla napping.

 Houston Museum of Natural Science

February has been completely slammed with professional development trainings, test practices, and nursing my health.  However, we have managed to sneak in some family time.  We went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and were blown away with the Energy Hall exhibit and the Paleontology Hall. We went to the zoo several times as well and are always delighted with each trip.  We also traveled down to Rosenberg, TX to visit the Railroad Museum which Kannon adored and refused to leave.  Rosenberg was a quaint little town.  We ate at an old-fashioned soda fountain and stopped by a Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives hotspot called Bob's Taco Station (side note: we will be returning there for tamales, OMG!).  I have been continuing running and have enjoyed these blissfully warm days. I will gladly trade in rain and gray for 70 degrees!
The boys loved this museum! Kannon refused to leave!

Rosenberg Railroad Museum--home to the biggest model train collection I have ever seen!!!

The boys have been growing like crazy.  Kannon is officially reading and starting to write.  He wrote his first story a few weeks ago.  It was short and sweet but for a 4 year old it was great.  He wrote "The train goes" and drew a picture of a train!  I was very proud--heck it was more than one of my 2nd graders writes!  Clark is still stubborn as ever but nonetheless adorable and imaginative!  One minute he is a crocodile chasing fish and the next he is astronaut flying in space.

Kannon asleep in my class after school....he gets tired!

We are getting very excited about Spring break! We are taking the opportunity to travel and camp around Texas.  We couldn't be more excited about having a week off, warm weather, and a chance to get outdoors! Until then, I have to pass my PPR (required for Texas educators), finish a few more online classes, and get better!  Anyways, here are a few more pictures of the past few weeks.....

At the zoo.... I love this place and THESE kids!

 Clark loves cheetahs!

These were some birds I saw on my run around the neighborhood.

 These dogs love each other.
